In just a few days I will be the parent of a high school graduate. I remember when Kayla was born and people kept telling me “don’t blink, time will go by fast.” Little did I know just how truthful these words were. The past eighteen years seem like a blur as we have navigated through preschool, kindergarten, elementary school, and the middle and high school years.
As I reflect on this special day in my family, I am thankful. I am thankful for the privilege of being a parent. Psalm 127 states the following: “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” I have no greater joy and reward than being a parent to my two daughters.
I am also thankful for all of those who have invested in Kayla’s life at Enon Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church. All of the nursery workers, Awana leaders, Sunday School teachers, Echo leaders and youth pastors have made a tremendous investment and impact on Kayla. Please remember that what each of you do makes a difference in the lives of these children.
Finally, I am thankful for the young Christian lady that Kayla has become. She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 6 years old. She will be graduating on Friday and going on a mission trip to Russia on Monday. In the fall she will be attending Liberty University. Yes, I am a proud dad. Yes, I will be shedding lots of tears. However, I know that God has a wonderful plan for her life and I am excited to see how it unfolds.
Thank you for allowing me to share a few personal words today. For all the parents who read this, time does go by fast and you need to enjoy every season of your children’s life. One of the best words of advice that I can give to any parent or grandparent is to continue to pray for your children all throughout their lives!!
Your pastor and friend,
Pastor Doug
